We are honored to announce 1976 Bishop Neumann graduate Doug Lanik as the new Head Football coach at Bishop Neumann. Doug had been serving as an assistant coach at Neumann for many years. Previously, he was the Head Football Coach at Waverly High School, Offensive Coordinator at Midland Lutheran College and an Offensive Coach at Peru State College.
As a player, Doug quarterbacked Neumann to a State Football Runner-Up finish in 1975. Doug was inducted to the Midland Lutheran College Hall of Fame in 2001 for football and baseball.
“We are excited to have Coach Lanik lead our football program next year. We felt he was the best candidate to replace Coach Turman and to continue the success of Bishop Neumann football. His passion for football and the love of the school was obvious as we looked for a coach. Coach Lanik is very aware of the culture of Neumann football and will continue the traditions that have led Neumann to many outstanding seasons.”
At a meeting this morning with the 2019 Bishop Neumann football team, Principal John Kreikemeier announced that Coach Lanik will be the next head football coach. When asked about his new position Doug said, “Being a Neumann alum it’s an honor to be named the head football coach. It is a special place to me that is rich in tradition and success. As I told the players this morning I’m excited to be their head coach and in charge of the program. Roll Cavs!” Doug is married to a Bishop Neumann alum, Kris (’76). Both of their sons Aaron (’99) and Josh (’01) are graduates of Bishop Neumann as well. They presently have five grandchildren.
