GALA 2019 “An Evening in Paris”

GALA 2019 took 375 guests to the “City of Lights” for An Evening in Paris. The work of dozens of supporters, donors, sponsors, teachers, students and volunteers provided resources for the three Saunders Catholic Schools.  The loving work and stewardship of these individuals grossed more than $240,000 with a net of $190,893 for the three schools’ infrastructure projects and Guardian Angel Scholarships to ensure access to Catholic education for families and their students.

With these new resources, Bishop Neumann will upgrade and renovate the Main Office and entry ways to be more welcoming to visitors and prospective students while being safe and secure and will continue to expand the Rainy Day Fund for roof repairs.  St. Wenceslaus School will replace and upgrade the fire alarm panel and system.  St. John Nepomucene School plans to update school classrooms and hallways to LED lighting that should pay for themselves in three years; due to heavy salting this winter, deteriorated concrete walks and drives will be repaired.

The Guardian Angel Scholarships will help those families who have students in one of our three schools.  The Diocese of Lincoln has changed the funding formulas for all diocesan schools, providing a program of Good Shepherd Scholarships to support access.  This helps both families and the supporting parishes.  The Guardian Angel Scholarships will be the safety net for those who otherwise may not find Catholic school attendance attainable.

Bryan Van Deun, Director of Development since January, was moved by the generosity of donors for the Guardian Angel Scholarships.  “After a fun and productive evening of good food, libations and auctions, we ended by explaining the needs being created for individual families by the new tuition financial arrangements.  A matching gift of $5,000 was held up and 21 other donors turned that into $30,500 in a very short time.  What examples of Christian love and charity!” Van Deun said.

We are all indebted to the GALA Chair Committee members, Sue and Les Mach, Andrea and Danny Furasek, and Shasta and Mark Pentico for their hard work, commitment, and sacrifices in order to help GALA 2019 to be successful.
