Joseph & Anastasia Sousek Endowment for Teacher Salaries

Joseph E. Sousek was born on July 5, 1922 in Prague, NE. He attended District 84 country school near Plasi. Joe served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps until he was honorably discharged. On November 9, 1948, he was united in marriage to Anastasia Divis at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. Joe was a lifelong farmer, devoted husband, caring father and grandfather. He was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church where he was a choir member for many years. He was a Church Trustee for 17 years. He enjoyed tending to his garden, woodworking, and feeding his birds. Joe passed away on February 17, 2015.

Anastasia M. Sousek was born April 10, 1925 in Wahoo, NE. Anastasia attended St. Wenceslaus School and graduated from Wahoo High School.  She worked at Omar Bakery in Omaha until she was married. Anastasia was a housewife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and an avid baseball fan.  She was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Plasi where she was involved in the Rosary Society and Altar Society.  She enjoyed tending to her flower garden and baking, especially her famous strudels. Anastasia passed on January 18, 2018.

Joe & Anastasia absolutely loved the students of our Catholic schools, along with those who teach here. Right before Anastasia passed, she established the Joseph & Anastasia Sousek Endowment for Teacher Salaries. The earnings from this fund help benefit the teachers of Bishop Neumann as we continue to work towards offering competitive wages.
