Wayne Reeves Memorial Scholarship

Wayne C. Reeves was born April 7, 1934, in Lincoln, NE.  Wayne graduated from Cathedral High School in Lincoln and University of Nebraska Lincoln.  On April 14, 1956, he was married to Carlene Dinges at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lincoln.

Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a dedicated educator and coach.  He had a lifelong devotion to Catholic schools where he spent most of his career.  He taught from 1957-1960 at the public school in Bellwood, NE before moving to Wahoo.  Five years were spent teaching at Wahoo Catholic High School and then continued at Bishop Neumann High School until his retirement in 1999.  Wayne served Bishop Neumann as a teacher, coach, athletic director, director of bus transportation and he continued serving the schools for many years past retirement.

Wayne was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church where he served as a lector, Eucharist Minister of the sick, usher and altar server.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sons of the American Legion, and founder of the Bishop Neumann Booster Club.  He worked many years with the Wahoo Parks and Recreation where he spent 25 years as the swimming pool manager.  He received a 25 years in Coaching Association Award and in 1989 the Bishop Neumann football field was dedicated in his honor.

Family was very important to Wayne and he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play in sports.  Throughout his years of teaching, Wayne taught his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In memory of Wayne, the Reeves family established the Wayne Reeves Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a Bishop Neumann student every year for tuition-assistance.
